Delores May Hovatter, known affectionately as "Aunt Sissy" to her cherished kin, departed this earth on January 24, 2024, at the age of 79. Born on October 30, 1944, in Jere, West Virginia, Delores lived a life marked by warmth, adventure, and the joy of connection.
Delores embraced a life of discovery. Alongside her devoted husband, she traveled across the United States, his military career inviting them to explore the world together. Adventures at sea were among her favorite memories, as cruises became a staple of her leisure time. Delores also turned to the thrill of chance, with gambling being a favored pastime.
Delores excelled at gathering people together, hosting family reunions that became legendary for the bonds they strengthened and the memories they created. Above all, her great-grandchildren — Hudson Snider, Marshall Stepney, Jr, and Saliha Stepney — brought unparalleled joy into her life.
Preceded in death by her parents, Delbert Barnett and Della Claypole; her husband, Thomas Hovatter; and her brothers, Delbert Barnett Jr. and Donald Barnett, Delores's legacy shines on through those she leaves behind: her siblings, Carol (Charles) Kirk and James Barnett; her children, Thomas Hovatter II and Marcella Hovatter; her grandchildren, Jessica (Jeremy) Snider and Marshall Stepney; and her treasured great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Amedysis Hospice team for the exceptional care they provided Delores.
Family and friends are invited to gather at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Monday, January 29, 2024 from 3PM – 7PM and again on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 from 10AM until the time of service at 11AM.
