Debbie Dian Dunn

Debbie Dian Dunn (Welch), 69, of Morgantown, WV passed away peacefully on April 14, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 16, 1954, to the late James Welch Sr. and Betty Welch. She follows her beloved mother, Betty, one week after her passing on April 7th, 2024. Debbie cared for her mother always and over the past month rarely left her bedside. The family is comforted that Debbie is now at peace with her loving mother.

Originally from Dallas, WV, she graduated from John Marshall High School and West Liberty State College with a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education. She worked for Marshall County Board of Education for 13 years.

Through mutual church friends, Debbie met and fell in love with Glenn Dunn. They exchanged letters as pen pals and when Debbie read that Glenn always wanted a live Christmas tree, she knew she met her match. Married for 39 years, they built a life together. Debbie helped Glenn run a successful construction and rental property business, but her first priority was always being a supportive wife, mom, daughter, sister, and aunt.

Debbie was warm, kind, and selfless. She routinely put others needs above hers. Described by her sisters as “the rock of the family” and her daughter’s friends as “a mom to all” she would always have a homemade meal on the table, sage advice, or a story to make you laugh. She gave the biggest hugs, which will be missed dearly.

She loved being a mom and took a proactive role in her daughter’s life. Spelling test drills in the car before school, assisting as a field trip chaperone, and building a life size conestoga wagon for a Laura Ingalls Wilder book report are only a few examples of her dedication.

Debbie loved a road trip. Whether a short drive in Glenn’s red 1954 Ford truck to get ice cream or a weekend away with her sisters in Dollywood, she loved to get out and explore the backroads with her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her father James Welch Sr., mother Betty Welch, her beloved brother James T. Welch Jr., and one baby son, Ryan Dunn.

She is survived by her husband Glenn Dunn, daughter, Julie Dunn, soon to be son in law Alex Theeke, step son Richard Dunn (Jessica Franks), step daughter Christi (Dean) Stallard, grandchildren Rocky Stallard, Max Stallard, and Alex Stallard, step daughter Misti Dunn, aunt, Bonnie (Gerald) Berghoff, sister Darla (Pete) Herrick, sister Donna (Tom) McLaughlin, nieces and nephews Debbie (Michael) Bellisario, Doug (Kelly) Berghoff, Brad (Becky) Berghoff, Bethanie Herrick, Ashley (Andrew) Guenard, and Shannon (Derek) Artimez, great-nephews Connor and Owen Guenard and many other wonderful family members.

Debbie was an active member of Woodland United Methodist Church and loved her church family.

The family sends their sincere gratitude to everyone who visited, sent cards, and prayed.

Family and friends will be received at Fred L. Jenkins in Morgantown, WV funeral home on Thursday, April 18th from 5 - 8 pm and Friday, April 19th at 11am. The funeral will take place on Friday at 12 pm. Interment to follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
