David Frederick Hollis, Sr., 74 of Morgantown passed away on Thursday March 20, 2014 at the Monongalia General Hospital. He was born July 26, 1939 in Morgantown, son of the late Reuben and Jewel Tanner Hollis. David was a graduate of St. Francis High School and was Catholic by faith. David was a US Army Veteran and a lifetime member of the Morgantown VFW Post 548. He worked as coal miner for many years and was a member of the UMWA. David along with his wife Patty always looked forward to decorating their home for Christmas. Each Christmas season they collected proceeds from those in the community who enjoyed the decorations and donated them to Morgantown Hospice. David is survived by his wife of 45 years Patty Hollis; two sons, David F. Hollis, Jr., and wife Teresa and Thomas A. Hollis all of Morgantown; one very special niece, Tina Buchanan and husband Robert; five grandchildren, Gary Hollis, William Hollis, Kayla Hollis, Cassie and Meghan Buchanan; siblings, Samuel Hollis and companion Ieda Darnell of Bruceton Mills, Faith Dameron, Frances Zepp and husband Paul and Robert Hollis and wife Pam all of Morgantown. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents David was preceded in death by an infant sister, Hope Hollis. There will be no viewing or services. Honoring David's wishes, cremation was arranged by the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home. Donations can be made to Morgantown Hospice, 965 Maple Drive Morgantown, West Virginia 26505
