Clyde Richey

Clyde H. Richey, 84, of Morgantown passed away Saturday February 15, 2020 at Sundale Nursing Home. He was born March 7, 1935 in Braxton, MS a son of the late Aubriey and Clyde Ammons Richey. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Army. Clyde attended West Virginia University, University of Mississippi, and Waynesburg College, earning a Master's Degree in Education. After earning his degree, Clyde taught elementary school in Parsons, WV. After teaching, Clyde was a writer and manager for Rogers Company in Pittsburgh, PA. Clyde was instrumental in starting the yearly Boys and Girls Basketball Tournament at the former St. Francis School in Morgantown. In later years, Clyde was a volunteer instructor, presenting Ken Burns historical documentaries, for OLLI at WVU, until his deteriorating health forced him to discontinue. In his spare time, Clyde was an avid reader, especially anything on the subject of History. He also enjoyed writing, traveling, and spending time with his cats. He is survived by his step-children Lorenzo "Jim" Turner and wife Connie, Trubie L. Turner and wife Sharon, Kirk A Turner and wife Annette; a special friend Tony Barill; and his supportive friends Bob Wright, Harriet Loth and John Loth. In addition to his parents, Clyde was preceded death by his devoted partner of over 40 years Dorothy Turner; brother Aubriey Richey, Jr; and sisters Eleanor and Frances. Friends will be received at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Wednesday February 19, 2020 from 6-8pm. Clyde will be laid to rest on Thursday at 11 am at Sugarlands Brethren Church Cemetery, near Thomas, WV. Burial 02/20/2020 11:00 AM Visitation 02/19/2020 6:00 PM 8:00 PM
