Clifford Allen Mitchell

Clifford Allen ‘Cliff’ ‘Big Red Dog’ Mitchell, 52, of Morgantown passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 4, 2016 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born in Ft. Huachuca, AZ on July 21, 1964, son of the late Richard H. and Nancy Lee Lewis Mitchell.
Cliff was a graduate of St. Francis High School and later California University of Pennsylvania, where he excelled at sports, breaking many records that still stand to this day. He had many passions in life and one particular was cooking. Cliff could often be found in the kitchen, ‘whipping’ up an old favorite recipe or creating a new one. His sister Donna would remind everyone that she was the taste tester for these ‘new’ dishes.
Cliff’s genuine love of people transcended generations. His smile was contagious and would light up the room. He was always the life of the party! His great sense of humor would pull you in and no one left his presence without feeling better than they did before they met.
Cliff is survived by his son, Clifford Meriwether, of NC; one granddaughter also of NC; sister, Donna Cottrell of Morgantown; brother, Anthony ‘Tony’ Mitchell of CA; sisters, Nannette Mitchell of KY, Faye Sexton (Jimmy) of CA, and Becky Mitchell of Morgantown; brother Richard ‘Ricky’ Mitchell, Jr., of Morgantown. He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews.
Memorial visitation will be held at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home, on Monday, September 12, 2016 from 11am until 12 noon. Memorial services will be held at 12 noon with Pastor Junius Lewis officiating.
Cliff’s family made the decision to donate his organs, which will allow others to have richer, fuller lives. The recipients may never know about Cliff or his generosity in life, but they will again experience laughter, joy, hope and happiness through his gift.
