Charles Robert Martin

Charles Robert ‘Bob’ Martin, 87 of First Ward, Morgantown passed away Friday February 19, 2010 at Mary Skipper’s Personal Care Home on the Kingwood Pike. Bob was born June 6, 1922 in Lumberport, WV son of the late Lyda and Vonda McCarty Martin. Bob was a US Army Veteran having served from 1942 until 1950 and received the rank of Sergeant. After his Honorary Discharge from the service, Bob graduated from college with a degree in engineering. He began his career at the Sterling Faucet plant as a pattern maker. He worked there until the plant closed. Bob was a kid at heart and never missed the opportunity to interact with children of all ages. He designed his own greenhouse which is still in operation today. He was a beekeeper, who harvested his own honey, grew his own corn for popping and was creative in keeping mother natures’ scavengers from stealing any of his crops. His background in engineering continued in his passion for constructing and perfecting numerous household appliances. He was a member of the Harner’s Chapel UMC where held the position of Deacon and sang in the choir. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jean McElroy Martin. He is survived by his two daughters, Debbie Martin and husband John of Massachusetts, and Janet Godfrey of Hundred; grandson Aaron Godfrey; sister Ellen Martin Himes, nieces Dianne Himes and Elizabeth Richards; great nieces Amber Gallo Amiee Gallo and Chelsea Richards all of Clarksburg, WV. Also surviving his good friend, co-worker and neighbor, Orson White of Morgantown. Friends may call the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home Monday Feb. 22 from 11am until time of services at 1pm with Pastor Dan Meadows officiating. Burial will follow at the Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
