Carmen Policchio

Carmen Policchio, 88, of Kingwood Street, Morgantown, passed away on Tuesday December 6, 2011 at the Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born in Italy on March 15, 1923 son to Pete and Giovanna Policchio. Carmen retired from the Monongalia County Board of Education. He grew up in Morgantown, where his father started and ran the Blue Ribbon Restaurant. He was a World War II veteran of the US Air Force, where he served in his home country of Italy. After the war, Carmen learned the butcher trade and worked many years until his retirement at Thorofare. Subsequently, he worked for ten years as the Custodian at Sabraton Elementary School. Carmen was an extraordinary gardener who until his last few years raised the largest beefsteak tomatoes and tallest corn known in Morgantown. He is survived by his daughter Caprice DeLauder of Pittsburgh, PA, and his grandchildren Ian DeLauder (24) of Cary, North Carolina, and Adam DeLauder (18) of Wexford, PA. He is also survived by his nephews Frank and Lee Policicchio of Morgantown. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years Bonnie Policchio, and also by his brother, Gabriel Policicchio, of Morgantown, as well as a brother and sister in Italy. Honoring Carmen's wishes, cremation services were provided by the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held at the Fred L. Jenkins Chapel of Prayer on Saturday December 10, 2011 at 11am with Pastor Fred Tomlinson officiating.
