Carl J. Smith

July 21, 1942 — May 28, 2021

Carl James Smith, Sr., 78, of Westover, passed away on Friday, May 28, 2021 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born in Logan County, Omar, WV a son of the late Joseph Gilbert Smith and Jessie Mae Vanible Smith.

After retiring, with 34 years of service, from Mon Power, Carl devoted himself to helping others and mentoring his younger family members.

Carl leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife Katrina Wells Smith; daughters Demetria (Ernie) Summers, Maya Bledsoe, Alicia Smith, Sharmille Smith, Shallon Johnson, Natasha Thomas; sons Eric (Billie) Smith, Michael Cranford, and Rodney Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Jessie Smith; brothers Bobby Smith, Eddie Smith, Gwathney Smith, and Marcus Smith; foster brothers Daryl Price, Jack Ott, Terry Lake, Bobby Price, Kenny Williams, and Bruce Phillips; sons Carl Smith, Jr. and Mark Peterson.

Carl is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and family friends.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at Kingdom: A Community Church, 540 Fairmont Rd. Westover, WV 26501 from 4pm – 8pm. Carl’s home going service will be held at the church on Wednesday June 9, 2021 at 11am with Pastor Greg Cummings officiating. Carl will be laid to rest at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens following the service.
