Betty Jo Cordray Whipkey, 86, a lifelong resident of Monongalia County, passed away peacefully on Monday June 30, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family. Betty was born August 12, 1927 in Lowesville, WV the daughter of the late Boyd Simpson Cordray and Margaret Erene McElroy Cordray Stiles. Many years later, Betty's mother Margaret married Mr. Paul E. Stiles. Betty Jo was married 58 years to Wendell Alvin Whipkey, who passed away on February 3, 2002. Betty Jo attended MHS and graduated from Morgantown Business College. She was employed by Monongalia County Schools as a secretary at the Board of Education office for 25 years. As a young mother, Betty Jo was a 4-H leader of the Cheat Lake Sailors and actively participated in 4-H camps each summer. She was a 50 year member of Avery United Methodist Church, the Easton Avery CEOs and the Easton Avery Seniors. A 45 year breast cancer survivor, Betty Jo actively participated in breast cancer awareness programs. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed gardening and flowers. Betty Jo is survived by three daughters and spouses; Constance (Connie) Rush, Carolyn Ann and William Carr McBee, Mary Margaret and Charles Daniel Vincent; three grandchildren and spouses; Wendi Lynn Rush Siko and Jason Barrett Siko, Drs. Willam Carr, Jr. and Jennifer H. McBee, Major Carrie Lynn McBee-Cooke, M.D. and Robert L. Cooke. Betty was blessed with eight great grandchildren; Barrett Allen and Wyatt James Siko, Joey, Colin, Quentin and Anna McBee and Christopher and Kathryn Cooke. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Dorothy Marie Whipkey and Dorothy Jean Whipkey both of Morgantown, Betty Lou Whipkey of Vanderbilt, PA. In addition to her parents and husband, Betty Jo was preceded in death by her son-in-law Gary Allen Rush, sister and husband Norma June and Ernest Ruckle, brothers-in-law and spouses, Robert and Margaret, Dewayne and Kay, Eugene and Bertha and Mildred, Lester, Darell and Velma, Kenneth and William Whipkey and dear friend Edsel Ed' Stockett. Friends may call at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home, Sunday July 6, 2014 from 1-3pm and 6-8pm. Betty Jo will lie in repose at the Avery United Methodist Church on Monday July 7, from 10am until time of services at 11am with Revs. Jenny Williams and Dan Kimble officiating. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Hills Cemetery.
