Betty Lou Hunter

May 24, 1920 — September 1, 2011

The gates of heaven opened and welcomed an angel from earth. Beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, Betty Lou Hunter joined loved ones gone before. Betty Lou was born at Kelley Corner, near Terra Alta, WV. May 24th, 1920, The daughter of the late Willie E, and Cleo Kelley Metheney. She spent the majority of her life in Morgantown, where she came to complete high school, graduating from MHS in 1938. During high school she met her love, Robert l " Bob" Hunter. They were married on August 27th, 1939, and were the first couple married in Skyline Caverns in Luray, VA. Bob preceded her to heaven on Nov. 23rd, 1988. Nana was a homemaker, and did it with love and care. She was a wonderful cook and baker, although she would always say " that's not very good" when it was delicious. She relocated to Parkersburg, WV in 2001, and was a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church. Betty Lou is survived by her daughter, Shirley L. DeWitt, with whom she made her home. A grandson, Jeffrey R. DeWitt, Great Grandchildren Jon and Hannah DeWitt, a special granddaughter Christina DeWitt, Aunt Bonnie Kelley, Brother-In -Law and spouse Joseph and Renelda Hunter, Sister -in -law Eileen Hunter, and cousins who were like her sisters, Vivian "Pete" Spencer, and Mary Lou Conn, several Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and Loved ones. She was preceded in death at age 5 by her brother, Freeman Metheney age 12, her beloved Son - In-Law Paul G DeWitt, and several cousins. Friends may call at The Fred L. Jenkins FH in Morgantown from 3to5 and 7to9 Saturday Sept. 3rd. Services will be held at the Chapel of Prayer at Fred L Jenkins FH, Sunday Sept. 4th at 3:30 pm with the Rev. Diane Kenaston officiating. She will be laid to rest in East Oak Grove Cemetery. There will be a Celebration of Life at Crossroads UM Church, Sept. 10th at 2:30pm.
