Betty J. Leighty Goss, 86 of Tyson St. (Jerome Park) Morgantown, left this world to be with her loving husband Carlos Goss on Tuesday June 29, 2010 at Monongalia General Hospital after a recent accident at home. She was born in Mt. Savage, MD, the fourth child of the late Jesse and Maude Leighty. She was raised in the Cassville/Jere area in Morgantown. She attended the Cassville School. She worked and retired from the Dietary Dept. of WVU at Boreman Hall. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, cooking, gardening, and everything to do with her babies. She was a lifelong member for 50 years of the Scott Ave. Church of Christ where she was the world bible school teacher. She also enjoyed getting together with her family and telling old time stories and singing gospel songs with her brothers and sisters. Betty is survived by her daughters Sharon Alexander, whom she lived with, and Theresa Snodgrass and husband Buddy of Morgantown; grandchildren Desiree Martin and husband Ray, Bill Alexander all of Morgantown, David Snodgrass and wife Hazel of Georgia, Sherriann Radcliff and husband Mitch of Georgia, Michelle Gilcrist and husband Jeff of Morgantown, and Amy Lewis and husband Mike of Masontown, WV; and 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by two sisters Mickey Poling of Morgantown and Gail Wright of TN, a brother Bill Leighty and wife Flo of Morgantown, and many cousins. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years Carlos Goss; siblings Dorothy Leighty at birth, Marion Leighty Stevens, Dick Leighty who died in WW II, Jake Leighty, Shirley Leighty Panrell, and Wilma Jean Leighty Hawkins Gross. Friends will be received at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home Thursday July 1, 2010 and Friday from 3-5pm and 7-9pm and again on Saturday from 10 am until time of services at 11am with Richard Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Lawnwood Cemetery.
