On May 31, 2017, Bernice Clara Rice Sowers, 86, of Morgantown entered into eternal rest.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Jim in 2015. She was the last surviving member of her family to parents, Wilbur and Edna Rice of Fayette County.
Bernice was an elementary teacher, having taught in Fayette County, and public and private schools in northern Virginia for 42 years. She was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Westover, WV and truly loved the Lord.
She and Jim were avid Mountaineer fans and season ticket holder and moved from Manassas, VA in order to attend games.
She was preceded in death by her parents as well as brothers; Roy, Hobert, and Milton Rice; and sisters; Sadie Rodgers, Ruby Rice, Kathleen McClosky, Margaret Toney, and Gerlene Bennett.
She is survived by two brother-in-laws, Gary Dressel and Donald Sowers. She leaves many nieces and nephews who loved her.
Friends will be received on Friday, June 2, 2017 at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, Westover, from 5pm until the 6pm service with Pastor Jeff Huggins officiating. A funeral service will be held at 11am, Saturday, June 3, 2017 in the mausoleum chapel at the Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Crawley, WV, with Pastor Steven Martin officiating. Burial will follow the service.
