Bernice M. Buchanan

Bernice Marguerite Buchanan, 84, of Morgantown passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday March 11, 2017 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. Born on September 28th, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Ulysses S. Plum and Ester Plum.

She was a graduate of Rowlesburg High School and the Morgantown Business College. She worked for 20 years as the secretary for the Morgantown Police Department and upon retirement returned as the night court clerk for the city police department for an additional 20 years, retiring again in November 2015.

Bernice was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and had a compassion for helping those in need. She will be remembered for her famous Christmas baking and sewing abilities.

She is survived by her children James W. Buchanan, Jr. and fiancée Patty Callen of Morgantown, Edward Buchanan and wife Christie of Bristol, VA, and Becky Chidester and husband Doug of Morgantown; grandchildren Brandy Buchanan and companion Ray Taylor, Erin Barrett and husband Chris, Brooke Buchanan, Cori Santy and husband Josh, Lucas Chidester, Jessica Goodwin and husband Toby, Katie Buchanan and companion Guy Helwig, and four great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her late husband James W. Buchanan and son Steven W. Buchanan.

The family would like to thank the Cardiac Care Unit at Ruby Memorial Hospital for their compassion and kindness toward Bernice in her last days.

Honoring Bernice’s wishes cremation was arranged by Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home.

Friends will be received at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Thursday March 16, 2017 from 4-8pm. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 11am with Carolyn ‘Perkie’ Preston officiating.
