Benjamin A. Phillips

May 7, 1982 — May 10, 2022

Benjamin Allen Phillips, 40, died Tuesday May 10, 2022, in Morgantown of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born in Morgantown, WV, on May 7, 1982 to Robert A. and TyeAnn Phillips. Ben graduated from Morgantown High School in 2000. Even though he lived with Crohn's disease for much of his life, Ben did not let that limit his many passions. He was artistic and derived much enjoyment from painting. He was an avid sports fan, particularly, WVU, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Penguins, and he had a profound love and respect for animals. Ben would be the first to say that he shared a particular perspective on life with his father, Robert, and his brother, Chris. All three leaned towards a worldview that stressed independence and self-reliance and had deeply felt convictions about justice, right and wrong, and the state of humanity. While Ben held no love for government institutions, he expressed gratitude to the many individuals who had shown him kindness during difficult times. He felt humbled by it and felt he had learned from it. He said: "There is never a bad time to show love to fellow human beings. You never know what someone is going through in their life." Above all, Ben was grateful to his mother, TyeAnn, for her love and devotion to him. Ben was preceded in death by his father, Robert A. Phillips; brother, Christopher Phillips; grandparents Ethel M. and Donald L. Curfman, and June L. and Allen F. Phillips; and aunts Charlene & TyeLene and an uncle, D. Carrol Phillips. He is survived by his mother, TyeAnn Phillips, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Please consider a donation in honor of Ben to Animal Friends of North Central West Virginia or your local pet shelter or animal adoption agency.
