Arveda Gail Fisher Mathess, 90, of Dellslow, WV, passed away Monday, March 2, 2015 in Columbia, SC where she had been residing with her daughter, Kay and son-in-law, Edmund Linkous. The daughter of the late Ulysses Grant (Dad) and Ella Ester (Murray) Fisher, she was born July 18, 1924 in Morgantown, WV. Arveda worked in Baltimore, MD as a Rosie the Riveter for the aviation industry during World War II. Upon Returning home to Morgantown, she married her late husband, Homer and became a homemaker. Arveda is survived by her two daughters, Brenda Kay (Edmund) Linkous of Columbia, SC and Beverly Lynn (James) Johnson of Morgantown; grandsons: Travis Linkous of Columbia, SC, Allen Mathess and companion Steven, Shawn (Patricia) Mathess, Christopher (Jamie) Mathess, Aaron (Angela) Joy-Johnson, and Daniel Johnson; great grandson, Easton Mathess; great-granddaughters: Brittany (Travis) Walls, Brianna Mathess, Atlee Mathess, and Oliva and Georgia Belle Johnson, great-great granddaughter, Harper Walls, all of Morgantown; two brothers, Ulysses Sherman (Jiggs) and wife Peggy Fisher of Salem, OH and John Thomas and wife, Jean Fisher of Inwood, WV; nephews: Robert (Bo) McDonald, George (Beulah) Murray, Randy (Harve) Murray, John (Denise) Murray, Jodi (Tracy) Murray, David (Melony) Fisher, Marc (Kris) Miller-Fisher, and Tom (Cathy) Bayne-Fisher; nieces: Debra Mathess and companion Dave Sanders, Joanne (and the late Larry Gay) Blosser, Marianne (Randy) McFaden, Amy Fisher. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Eugene Mathess; son, Allen Brian Mathess; sisters, Mary Ida (Dewey) McDonald and Mildred (Mid) Murray; infant siblings, George Clinton and Suzanne Fisher. A special and heartfelt thanks to nieces, Deb, Joanne and Marianne, for the occasional ladies luncheon outings, which she looked forward to; nephews, Harve and John for the special cheering birthday phone call, which made her laugh and brightened her day, and her nephew, George for checking on her daily until she was no longer able to stay in her own home. Family and friends may call at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Saturday, March 7, 2015, from 5-8 p.m. and Sunday, March 8, 2015 from 12 noon until the 1 p.m. service in the funeral home with Pastor Dan Meadows officiating.
