Obituary

Arthur Donald "Don" Lewis, 88, of Morgantown, WV, passed peacefully at his residence, surrounded by family, on Thursday, October 15th, 2026.

Don was born in Uniontown, PA to Clara and Albert Lewis on December 28th, 1937, the sixth of eight children. He attended Morgantown High School and graduated in 1956. During the Korean War, he honorably served his country in the 101st Airborne Division.

He was a lifelong Morgantown resident and Real Estate developer. Don was instrumental in the construction of Morgantown's residential and commercial real estate landscapes, including building the Mylan Pharmaceuticals facility, the West Virginia University Medical School, and the Evansdale Residential Complex (Towers). He also invested in the development of Marion Meadows, Brandywine Estates, Lakeview Estates, Greystone, Miramichi, and numerous WVU student rentals.

When someone said, "I've got a guy," Don was likely who they were talking about. There was nothing he wouldn't tackle, and even less he couldn't accomplish when armed with a roll of duct tape, a can of WD-40, and a Bobcat.

Don was a lover of classic automobiles, fast cars, motorcycles, and aviation. He was also a lifelong fan of golf and was very happy that his grandson has continued to use his clubs.

There was nothing Don wouldn't do for his family and closest friends. He was a man of extreme conviction and dedication, whose first priority was always caring for his wife.

Don is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 65 years, Mary C. Lewis of Morgantown; his daughter and only child, Dr. Elizabeth Lewis (Brian Mellett); and his two grandchildren, Julia Mellett and Evan Mellett, all of Nashville, TN. His grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Dad", were a source of tremendous pride for him, and he delighted in watching them pursue their academic, athletic, and professional careers.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Don's loving, long-term, private care providers, Shirley, CC, Whitney, and Katelin, as well as WV Caring Hospice.

Prior to his passing, a private family service was held by his bedside, in Don's honor.

Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of his worldly body.

Donations in Don's memory can be made to The Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation (ADDF) www.alzdiscovery.org/donate and/or the Rheumatology Research Foundation www.rheumresearch.org/donate.
