Bishop Alfred Cook Reed, 94, of Morgantown, passed away Sunday February 3, 2019 at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, with his family by his side. Alfred was born in Preston County, WV on Nov. 19, 1924 to the late Raymond Cook Reed and Glenda Murle Reed.
He attended Morgantown High School, leaving to serve in the United States Navy during World War II. After the military, he was employed in the coal mining industry, as well as, Brock Oil, Sterling Faucet Co. as a lathe operator and retired with over 20 years of service as a mechanical technician in the WVU Mineral Industries Department.
Alfred was the Pastor of First Apostolic Church in Morgantown for the past 25 years and loved preaching the gospel. He was, also, a Bishop in the Pentecostal Assemblies of Jesus Christ.
He loved being with his family, deer hunting, fishing, following football and baseball, proudly watching the Morgantown High School Band, and working on his antique cars.
Alfred is survived by his loving wife Barbara George Reed; son Keith Reed and wife Linda; grandchildren Brian Reed, Kristin Brewster and husband Mike; brothers and sisters-in-law Argyle (Lovinda) Sheets, Ellen (Chuck) Gillespie both of Morgantown, Candy (Glenn) Roby, Betty (Tom) O’Scier, Polly Bresock, Fillmore, Lloyd, and James George, and mother-in-law Eva George all of Ohio; cousins Elinor (Carroll) Hawkins and Liz McMillan both of North Carolina and many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his loving English Bulldog, Buster.
In addition to his parents, Alfred was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Sheets Reed in 1996; sister Doris Jean Oleksa and husband Steve; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Barbara and Harold Fizer and brothers-in-law Jesse George and Jeff Bresock.
Family and friends will be received at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Thursday February 7, 2019 from 2-4pm & 6-8pm and again on Friday from 12pm until the time of funeral services at 1pm with Bishop Wheeler A. Estepp officiating. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
