Alfonso Pompili, Sr.

Alfonso Louis Pompili ,Sr. 86 of Morgantown passed away Saturday, August 25, 2012 at the Mapleshire Nursing and Rehab Center. Alfonso was born in Morgantown on July 31, 1926, son of the late John and Helen Pompili. Alfonso was a 1945 graduate of Morgantown High School. He proudly served our country in the US Army during World War 11. After the service he married and was employed by Armour Meat, Chico Dairy and retired from Local 152 Plumbers and Pipefitters. He was an active member of St. Francis De Sales Parish. In his spare time he loved gardening and family get togethers .A hug and a kiss were his favorite gifts. Alfonso is survived by his wife Opal of 65 years, sons and spouses; Alfonso Pompili Jr.(Kaye) of Morgantown, Paul Pompili(Judy) of Portland, Oregon, Jim Pompili(Donna) of Morgantown, daughters and spouses; Paulette Hefflinger(Jim) of Canby, Oregon ,Loraine Simpson(Brad) of Cincinnati, OH, Cindy Brooks(Rod) of Sammamish,Washinton ,sister and spouse Jean Pekach (Mike) of Marietta, OH. ,brother and spouse John Pompili (Bea) of McAlpin,Fl. Brothers in law Frank Balint of Morgantown, Earl Brown of Cleveland, OH. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 8 gr. Grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Alfonso was preceded in death by infant son Craig, sisters Lucy Barbabella and Mary Balint. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Mapleshire Nursing and Rehab Center for their excellent care and comfort. Friends may call at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home on Monday, August 27, from 10am until 2pm and also from 3pm until 9pm. Additional viewing will be held Tuesday at St. Francis De Sales Parish from 10am until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11am with Very Rev. Fr. Mark Ward and Fr. Colombo Bandiera as celebrants. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family request that contributions be made to St. Francis De Sales Parish, 1 Guthrie Lane, Morgantown, WV 26508-4837.
