Dr. Kim Bryan Carey

July 10, 1946 — May 12, 2020

Kim Bryan Carey, MD., 73, of Morgantown passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 12, 2020, at the Mon Health Medical Center. Kim was born July 10, 1946, in Follansbee, WV, a son to the late John H. and Marion Davis Carey. Kim was a graduate of Weir High School class of ’64.

Kim was Catholic by faith and a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Star City.

Following high school, Kim went on to earn his degree in Education from West Liberty University, WVU, where he earned degrees from the School of Physical Therapy and the School of Medicine.

Kim taught for a short time at Weir High School and later practiced as a Physical Therapist in both Tennessee and Pennsylvania. Kim would return to Morgantown and together with a group of physicians, establish, Wedgewood Family Practice and Psychiatry Associates, the largest private primary care practice in North Central West Virginia at the time.

Kim was twice elected to the West Virginia House of Delegates and was a frequent volunteer physician in Codrington, Barbuda. After his retirement in 2013, Kim spent time enjoying the outdoors, whether fishing or golfing. Kim was also an avid Mountaineer fan.

Kim is survived by his wife, Sandra Tomasovich Carey; one son, Eli John Carey of Morgantown; granddaughter, Cassandra Neely and husband Dave; two; great-grandsons, Jack and Teddy Neely all of Nappanee, IN; one brother Richard Carey and wife Debbie of Rock Hill, SC; three sisters-in-law, Marcia Newbrough and husband Bob and Mishal Hawthorne and husband Mike all of Weirton, WV and Beth Tomasovich of Washougal, WA, and one brother-in-law Mike Tomasovich and wife Nancy of Atlanta, GA. Kim is also survived by his Godson Pierre Cuffy of Greenville, SC, and several nieces and nephews.

Kim was preceded in death by his parents, John and Marion Carey; one son, Bryan Michael Carey in 2009; brother-in-law, Ted Tomasovich, and his mother and father-in-law, Wanda and Mike Tomasovich.

Kim’s request for cremation has been honored by the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home. A service of memorial and celebration will be announced at a later date.

Honoring Kim’s generous wish, the gift of life was shared with many people in need through organ and tissue donation. Dr. Carey gave in death as he gave in life. Dr. Kim Bryan Carey’s final act of kindness was to give the gift of life through organ and tissue donation.
