Life Legacy

Wilbert J. George, 81, of Morgantown, passed away Monday October 24, 2011 at his residence. He was born April 24, 1930 in Ridgeley, WV the son of the late William and Iva Bonner George.

He resided in St. Louis, MO for 50 years with his late wife Mary Valentine George where they owned and operated Hatfield’s Tavern. After the passing of his wife, Wilbert returned back to WV in 2000 to be near his family. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force.

He is survived by seven sisters Hallie J. Sherlock of Parksville, MD, Nevada Reed of Star City, Betty Skelley of Morgantown, Glenda Spicer of Milford, OH, Joyce Voithofer and companion Don Renner of Morgantown, Billie Faye Bicanich and husband Chuck of Morgantown, Judy Johnson of Star City; two brothers John George of Morgantown and George W. George and wife Josie of Mt. Morris, PA.

In addition to his parents and wife, Wilbert was preceded in death by a son Jay George; sister Dotty Sue; brothers-in-law Vince, Ralph, Benny, Auggie; sister-in-law Judy.

Wilbert enjoyed the time he spent delivering Meals on Wheels and golfing when he was able to do so.

He is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly; his two cats Tiger Boy and Miss Kitty; and a dear friend Craig Winsbermuehie of St. Louis, MO.

Friends will be received at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home Wednesday October 26, 2011 from 1-3pm & 5-7pm. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Wednesday evening at 7pm with Rev. Tim Halloran officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Westover VFW Post 9916. Entombment will follow at Valhalla Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Humane Society or to Amediysis Hospice 246 Cheat Rd. Suite 3 Morgantown, WV 26508.

The family would like to thank the nurses and caregivers of Amediysis Hospice, especially Ron Klink for all of their support. You were all so helpful during a difficult time.
